PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Pain Medicine Fellowship at Larkin Community Hospital Palm Springs Campus is a one-year program that provides a comprehensive and diverse educational experience in the field of Pain Medicine.
The fellowship prepares fellows to meet eligibility requirements for Board Certification of Added Qualifications in Pain Medicine.
Program Mission
The mission of the Larkin Community Hospital Palm Springs Pain Medicine fellowship training program is to provide fellows with high-quality and comprehensive cognitive and clinical education. This training will enable them to become competent, proficient, and professional Pain Medicine Physicians. Fellows completing this training will achieve competency in the assessment and management of individuals with acute and chronic pain, including developing skills in interventional pain management.
Program Aims
- Help fellows become skilled at diagnosing and managing complex pain issues by working in a multidisciplinary team.
- Ensure fellows are confident in performing a variety of interventional pain procedures, such as nerve blocks, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, and minimally invasive surgeries.
- Teach fellows how to evaluate and apply the latest research and best practices in their everyday clinical work.
- Instill in fellows a strong dedication to ensuring patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction in the treatment of chronic pain.
- Encourage fellows to explore and adopt new technologies and techniques in the field of pain management.
- Support fellows in getting involved in clinical research, aiming to contribute valuable knowledge to the field of pain management.
- Prepare fellows to take on leadership roles, whether in academia, clinical practice, or administration within pain medicine.
- Enhance fellows’ ability to work closely with other healthcare professionals, like physical therapists, psychologists, and primary care providers.
- Teach fellows the ethical aspects of pain management, focusing on responsible opioid prescribing and respecting patient autonomy.
- Encourage fellows to commit to continuous learning so they can stay current in the rapidly advancing field of interventional pain management.
