PROGRAM DESIGN
The program is designed to give a broad experience to residents in which they will be exposed to the various imaging modalities, the different subspecialties of radiology, and a wide range of pathologies in multiple different clinical settings.
Larkin Community Hospital (LCH) South Miami Campus is located at 7031 SW 62 Avenue, South Miami, Florida. This is a well-known General-Surgical-Psychiatric and Teaching Hospital, which has been designated as Area of Critical Need in Florida by the HRSA and the Florida Department of Health. We have been serving the health care needs of South Miami and the surrounding communities for more than 40 years. Our institution provides comprehensive services in order to serve the community through qualified inter-disciplinary teams.
Palm Springs Hospital is a 247-bed acute care general hospital located in Hialeah, Florida. Palm Springs General Hospital has earned a recognized reputation for offering state-of-the-art medical care and leading-edge medical technology in a friendly, caring environment. For many years the hospital operates as a privately-owned entity fostering individualized care and community involvement, and has received and maintained the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations certification.
ProScan Imaging is a Cincinnati based imaging center with additional offices in Naples specializing in musculoskeletal imaging. They are trusted across the nation by professional athletes and continue to expand their network of dedicated radiologists and researchers.
Our department’s faculty includes a dedicated team of Interventional Radiologists practicing at Larkin Hospital as well as Miami’s Vascular and Spine Institute. Residents have several opportunities for building their procedural skillsets including IVC filter placement, kidney/liver biopsies, thoracentesis, and paracentesis to name a few. Those interested in a career path of Interventional Radiology will have access to our accredited Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) program, allowing advanced placement into their 2nd year of IR fellowship training, thereby reducing the total training time required to practice.
Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida (NCH) is a freestanding, 130-bed, pediatric acute care children’s hospital located in Lake Nona Medical City outside of Orlando, Florida. It is affiliated with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and is a member of the Nemours Children’s Health, one of two freestanding hospitals in the system. The hospital, a multi-year recipient of The Leapfrog Award for quality and safety, provides comprehensive pediatric specialties and subspecialties to infants, children, teens, and young adults throughout Central Florida and beyond. It features a regional pediatric intensive-care unit and neonatal intensive care units serving both central Florida and the greater Florida regions.
Pembroke Pink Imaging is a state-of-the-art comprehensive dedicated women’s outpatient center affiliated with the main hospital. Benefits include: High volume of cases utilizing multiple modalities, which including mammogram, tomosynthesis, ultrasound, breast and pelvic MRI, high risk OB/gyn US/MRI, procedures including biopsies (US, MRI, and stereotactic) and needle localization.
Miami Neuroscience Center at Larkin is a state-of-the-art outpatient comprehensive facility attached to the main hospital specialized in Gamma Knife-Skull Base surgery. This facility is home of the most experienced Gamma Knife team in the region under the expert direction of the well-known neurosurgeon Aizik Wolf, M.D., who helped to develop the Leksell Gamma Knife. Benefits include: Extensive pathology, Gamma knife, high-intensity focused ultrasound, neurointerventional procedures, ACR accreditation cases, RADPEER exposure, research oriented.
American College of Radiology AIRP Radiologic/Pathologic Course is a required 4-week AIRP Pathologic/Radiologic course at the ACR in Washington, D.C. In addition to the educational experience, the course allows residents to develop contacts with peers from other parts of the country, share their experiences, and learn about other programs. “The mission of the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology (AIRP) is to advance the science of radiology for radiology residents, fellows, practicing radiologists and other physicians through a pathophysiologic understanding of disease as the basis for radiologic interpretation.”
ESIR – our program is proud to offer Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR). Up to 2 residents may enroll in the accelerated track during the R2 year. These residents will have more IR rotations throughout the residency and will be eligible to complete a IR fellowship in 1 year as opposed to 2 without ESIR certification.
