PROGRAM HISTORY
The Department of Anesthesiology at Larkin Community Hospital (LCH) was established in
2012 as an AOA osteopathic program and run by the first chairman, Dr. Juan Cucalon, MD. In
2019, Dr. John Sciarra, MD, took over the department and began its journey toward ACGME-accreditation. The main hospital itself is a 146-bed medical, surgical and psychiatric teaching hospital located in the heart of South Miami.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Larkin anesthesiology residency program provides 1 preliminary intern year, followed by 3 clinical anesthesia (CA) years. Based on Anesthesiology ACGME milestones, the program has a structural algorithm to prepare residents for Basic/Advance/Oral board licensing exams with weekly didactics, grand rounds, scholarly activities, and journal clubs. Our goal is to provide a teamwork dynamics environment to train future competent anesthesiologists who advocate patient-focus care and evidence-based anesthesiology medicine.
